Golden Gate Fiber Institute

Winter Intensive

January 5 - 11, 2009

Join us for the second meeting of the Golden Gate Fiber Institute. We have great teachers, a beautiful location, fabulous food and the Pacific Ocean at our door step!

The retreat will be 6 days of instruction with one day of rest in the middle for studio time and catching up.  The classes are quite intensive and each student will take two classes - one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Our belief is that by dividing up the day and spending some time with each of two different subjects we will be giving your mind and body time to learn and absorb all the new information and techniques.  Just imagine spending the morning (or afternoon)  knitting with Kathryn Alexander, spinning from Judith Mackenzie McCuin or weaving fantastic fabrics with Takako Ueki of Habu Textiles and the the rest of the day learning about silk from reeling thread to card weaving bands with Michael Cook,  silk fusion and embellishment with Rain Klepper , or designing clothing you will love with Jeane deCoster.

This is a small retreat in a relaxed atmosphere with lots of time to learn and practice, walk for exercise and inspiration and enjoy your fellow fiber folk. The classes are small to maximize your learning opportunity and provide plenty of individual attention.

The retreat facility is rustic but the location is fantastic! We will be using the Point Bonita YMCA Camp and Conference Center in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA). The facility is an old military base set amidst the beauty of the California coast just 5 minutes north of the Golden Gate Bridge. If the accommodations are rustic the food is not!  The chef is a graduate of the California Culinary Academy and does a magnificent job of providing for a variety of special food needs while making the overall dining experience a pleasure. Visit their website to learn about the outdoor program and to see more about the camp. www.pointbonitaymca.org Also go to our page about  Point Bonita to see some photos and get a better idea about our facilities.

Cost:  $845 includes classes, food and lodging. Materials fees will depend on which classes you take. We would like a $200 deposit at the time you register. Balance will be due on Nov 15, 2008.
