Track A
Creating Knit Surfaces with Color and Shape for Garments with Kathryn Alexander
Each student should bring (if possible)
Double point knitting needles, I prefer 8” bamboo for this work, but all needles will work, even circular: Sizes 2, 3, & 4.
Paper Pencil for note taking
Moving Threads: Spinning Beautiful Cloth
with Judith MacKenzie McCuin
Students Should bring:
Your spinning wheel with all its parts (including extra bobbins, whorls, heads, etc)
Hand cards or combs
Your regular spinning tools- (could include but not limited to) lazy/(clever) kate, niddy noddy,
An assortment of knitting needles in a variety of the sizes you use most often (to try things out)
Paper and Pencil for note taking
Students Should bring:
Floor or table looms the looms must have either straight or polyester heddles in order to avoid the breakage of the fine silks.
Raddle with 1/2 inch interval
Notebook, pen, measure, masking tape, scissors
Many stick or boat shuttles and bobbins
Warping board
The group will need an electric bobbin winder and a swift

Students should Bring:
Inkle loom if you have one (one will be provided if you do not)
Scissors, tapestry needle
Notebook and pen

Students Should Bring:
Creating Fused Silk Fabric with Rain Klepper
Students Should Bring:
Apron
Plastic or latex gloves
Paintbrush, hardware store type, at least 2 X 2 inches
5 plastic plates or bowls
Dish tub, or bucket
5 plastic cups or yogurt containers
Sponge, without a scrubby on one side
50 wooden clothespins, initial with Sharpee or other waterproof marker
small spray bottle for water
Roll of paper towels
**if you are flying to class and unable to bring your own supplies, please inform the class organizer at least two weeks in advance. Thank you!
Optional Student Materials:
As part of your materials fee, there will be yarns, thrown silk waste, etc. as tidbits to use as inclusions in your fused fabric. You may want to bring others items from your own embellishment and inclusion stash such as: novelty yarns, lace and fabric bits, leaves, feathers, beads, buttons, etc.
An inexpensive glass vase or candle holder to cover with fusion.
A very basic vest pattern, without tailoring details.
Lining fabric, such as quilt cottons or silk, for a bag, book cover, or vest.
A sewing machine with feed dogs that can be covered or lowered, with a darning or free motion embroidery foot. Please be sure your machine has been serviced in the last year. Bring an extension cord/surge protector.
The Class will need at least 3 sewing machines, an iron and ironing board and drying racks - if you have any of these, are driving and are willing to share please let me know. (morgaine at ggfi.com)
